INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Starke County Assessor’s Office along with the State of Indiana is encouraging property owners affected by recent storm damage and/or flooding to contact their assessor’s office to learn whether they may qualify for a reassessment of their property’s value.
When flooding or another disaster causes significant damage to a property, its value may be less than it was before the event. Your county assessor’s staff can help walk you through a process that may allow the assessed value to be adjusted accordingly. The Starke County Assessor’s Office can be reached directly at 574-772-9107, or you may contact us by email at [email protected].
Property owners should:
- Take photos or videos of the damage.
- Keep insurance claims, repair estimates, receipts, and other records related to the damage.
- Contact your county assessor even if you are unsure whether your damage qualifies.
- Ask about Form 137R, the state form used to request a disaster-related reassessment.
You do not need to figure this out on your own. If your property was damaged by the recent storms and flooding, start by contacting your county assessor’s office. They can explain the process, help determine which provision may apply to your situation, and provide information about the forms and deadlines.
